Kaluki are promising solid international line ups with headliners such as Henrik Schwarz, The Martinez Brothers, Kerri Chandler and Dan Ghenacia.
Kate Lawler – Manchester
Prepare to stand proud as August bank holiday weekend sees Manchester transform into a kaleidoscope of colour, as the city centre celebrates the annual Pride festival. For the past 20 years Manchester Pride has showcased a series of events across the bank holiday weekend that celebrates the great diversity of the LGBT community. To add some feisty flavour to this year’s festivities, BITCH will be joining the party to promote dignity on the dance floor with an honorary celebration of repetitive beats. By dictionary definition pride translates as ‘the love of one’s own excellence’ and BITCH most certainly stands true to that definition. Having forged a loyal affiliation with its party people by delivering who is sought in the scene, enthused in a contagious carnival atmosphere – the bottom line is BITCH HAS PRIDE! Headlining this Bank holiday BITCH-fest and gracing VENUS with her fierce female finesse is DJ/producer and Toolroom artist KATE LAWLER! Since she burst into the UK’s consciousness back in 2004, Kate has worked harder than most at getting the world to sit up and take notice. Her relentless, never let them knock you down approach to work is the contributing factor to her meteoric rise. Successfully building herself a reputation as one of the leading female DJs in the country, by 2006, Kate held a residency at DJ Mag’s number 1 club in the world Sankeys, Manchester. She’s now rocked the UK’s top clubbing venues from Pacha, The Cross, Ministry of Sound and Turnmills in London, to The Arches in Scotland, Garlands in Liverpool and Lush in Ireland. Versatile, inventive, energetic and passionate, she’s kicked it alongside dance floor legends such as Sebastien Leger, Andy Chatterley, Nic Fancuilli, James Zabelia, Martijn Ten Velden and Deep Groove, impressing promoters and fellow DJs with her infectious style. BITCH proudly welcomes KATE and her vivacious vibes back to the decks, as she prepares to destroy the dance floor with the musical mastery!
Supporting her in the fronting the feisty female flair is SUZE ROSSER. A love for clubbing forged a love for dJing for this Jersey born talent! From a young age each weekend was spent sneaking into club nights, exposing her to some of the top DJs in the scene and fuelling her passion for dance music. Soon enough Suze was donning a pair of headphones before her dancing shoes and became a regular name on the local circuit, playing alongside acts such as Paul Woolford, Paul Thomas and Mistress De Funk. However, her major breakthrough came when she supported Pete Tong at the renowned Rhumba Castle party. Not being one to pigeonhole herself, her style leans towards House, Techno and Tech-house and it’s all about the groove for Suze. A more recent venture has seen her partner up with international DJ Lottie, who has championed her skills for a while. Together they have launched the new all female night Geisha. Geisha is run both in London and Ibiza and is looking to “Inspire and innovate females globally through music”. The future is looking bright for this talented female artist and BITCH salutes her as she prepares to grace their stage.
Finally, putting the finishing touches to the main melodies are BITCH residents MARK KOVICH, LEMPO and PETE MOBEY. Also, gracing the ones and twos will be the winner of the infamous BITCH DJ competition. Room two will be taken hostage by VENUS residents ANDY CLARKE, ROB CALLAGHAN and the runner up of the BITCH DJ competition, delivering their usual bill of best in handbag house beats!
SO… join the party and celebrate ‘the love of excellence’ as this bank holiday weekend BITCH HAS PRIDE!
OMD To Re-Open Legendary Liverpool Club Eric’s
OMD To Re-Open Legendary Liverpool Club Eric’s
PIONEERS of the British electronic music scene, Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark, will be the first band to play at the relaunched Eric’s club on Mathew Street, Liverpool on Saturday 10th September 2011.
The band will interrupt their world tour to return home to play the special launch event. OMD’s hits include Joan of Arc, Electricity, Messages, Souvenir, Sailing on the Seven Seas and Enola Gay.
“If Eric’s had not existed then neither would OMD! Even though you cannot recreate what Eric’s meant to our generation over 30 years ago, it will be fun to play on the same stage again remembering the past whilst hopefully celebrating a new and different future.” said singer Andy McCluskey.
“It’s quite fitting that OMD, who played their first ever gig at Eric’s over 30 years should come back to re-open the new Eric’s. We’re over the moon to welcome such an iconic band back to the venue but we’re also looking forward to showcasing the next wave of new talent over the forthcoming months at club” said Ethan Allen Music Director of Eric’s.
Eric’s influence on the music scene was legendary. With early gigs from Blondie, Buzzcocks, The Clash, Elvis Costello, The Jam, Joy Division, The Police, The Sex Pistols and The Stranglers. Liverpool’s music scene in the late 1970′s was an exciting and dynamic place to be. Everyone was either in a band, in-between bands or were forming a band. In the midst of all this activity was Eric’s Club – a small discreet venue that was a favoured haunt for the people who would later form bands such as The Teardrop Explodes, Echo & The Bunnymen and Frankie Goes To Hollywood. So it was quite apt that Eric’s was the venue of choice for the debut performance of Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark in October 1978.
From the beginning Paul Humphreys and Andy McCluskey launched their own unique style of electronic melodies and thoughtful lyrics that helped form OMD’s reputation for intelligent pop. OMD have managed to occupy that rare space between the alternative and the commercial, writing songs about such diverse subjects as airplanes, oil refineries, religious icons and movie stars. These songs capture perfectly the balance between energy and emotion; a pop melancholia that echoed around the walls of Eric’s Club over thirty years ago and that still sounds fresh and exciting today. Their latest studio album History of Modern was released in 2010.
Supporting OMD are Liverpool band, Kids on Bridges, who promise to bring their own blend of Dirty Filthy Electro Pop to the masses. “Kids on Bridges wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for bands such as OMD. To play with a band that has crossed generations and pioneered electro and is still as relevant in today’s electronic generation is a great honour. To play with them at Eric’s where it all began is a dream and it’s why you get into playing music” said Kids on Bridges frontman Christian Bragg.
Eric’s will re-open its doors to the public this September with a selection of pre-launch gigs. An official launch is planned in October to mark 35 years anniversary since the venue first opened. Listings will be announced over coming weeks.
Proud2 Introduces Autumn Events: Artful Dodger, JME, Louis Vega, Todd Terry, Pied Piper
Proud2 Announces New Season of Events
Proud2’s Autumn programme from August Bank Holiday to October
August to October 2011
After a spectacular summer season which saw the likes of Chipmunk, Tinchy Stryder, Mystery Jets, Zane Lowe, Sidney Samson, Stanton Warriors, DJ Hype, and Goldie perform, superclub Proud2 at The O2 (formerly known as Matter) is pleased to announce its new Autumn schedule from August Bank Holiday to October. The Autumn season features a host of stars including the likes of deep house legend Todd Terry, soulful house heavyweight Louie Vega, grime stars Boy Better Know and UK garage pioneers DJ EZ, DJ Luck and MC Neat and Artful Dodger. Proud2 will host some of the biggest nights in the capital this autumn covering an eclectic range of dance music
subgenres including Drum & Bass, UK Garage, Soulful and Deep House and Hard Dance. In addition to welcoming back established club brands and firm favourites such as Choice FM and Kinky Malinki – who are fast becoming institutions at Proud2 – the club is delighted to welcome new brands including Z Uncut, One Nation, Innovation and Groove Odyssey. Boasting a huge capacity of 4000 clubbers, Proud2 has a spectacular Vegas style design spread across three levels, and a much heralded state-of-the-art sound system and lighting set up that has remained from Matter’s reign.
For the first time ever in the capital, two giants of the Drum & Bass scene, One Nation and Innovation, will be coming together to form an almighty collaboration at Proud2. With the Notting Hill Carnival sweeping through the capital on August Bank Holiday weekend, Bass Heavy will be the essential after party on Sunday 28th August, with the Godfather of jump-up himself, DJ Hype headlining Room 1 along with Goldie. With huge support from fellow veterans Hazard, Grooverider, and rising stars Original Sin, Sigma and DJ Phantasy, not forgetting a star studded line up of MCs, with the original Uncz crew Skibadee, Eksman, and Harry Shotta.
Proud2’s renowned sound system will be pushed to its limits on September 3rd for Z Uncut with DJ EZ playing an exclusive marathon 8 hour set. A true pioneer of the UK garage scene, EZ will be bringing his own club night to The O2 following a summer of touring round Europe. On 10th September, Proud2 will be hosting none other than Grammy Award nominated DJ and producer Todd Terry, who is flying in especially from New York for a one-off performance. Set to perform hits from his latest album Strictly Todd Terry, the night is guaranteed to showcase the finest of today’s house scene as well as pay homage to those classic anthems which made house music a global phenomenon.
It’s round 2 for two of the UK’s biggest hard dance clubbing brands, with Riot! and Goodgreef Xtra Hard returning to Proud2 to throw another London bash on 16th September. This will be a ‘battle of the best,’ sure to be an explosive and outrageous night with a huge line up including Lisa Lashes, Kutski (BBC Radio 1 – Best UK DJ Hard Dance Awards), Anne Savage, A*S*Y*S, and Ed Real.
Moving into the colder months, Proud2 will be reigniting summer nostalgia with The Ayia Napa Reunion courtesy of Curiosity on 24th September, featuring performances from Radio 1’s DJ Cameo, Boy Better Know, JME, DJ Luck & MC Neat, Pied Piper and many more. With RnB, Garage, Funky House and old school jungle all represented, this will be the essential Summer Reunion bash.
On October 1st, Proud2 will play host to one of the capital’s top Soulful House brands, Groove Odyssey, who will be celebrating their second birthday. To mark the occasion in style, the legendary Louie Vega will headline the event, with an exclusive performance from none other than Peven Everett. With other top DJs and an array of astounding performers, this will be one of the biggest soul events Proud2 has had to date.
On October 15th, Proud2 is hosting the Ibiza Reunion. A headline set from KISS 100’s DJ Swerve will be sure to bring punters the best in hip-hop, RnB and club anthems while DJ EZ, recovered and refreshed from his mammoth 8 hour set in September, will be back to teach another lesson in the art of UKG. The legendary Scott Mills will also be in the building, joined by the likes of Rat Pack and Ricky & Melvin. There’s only one place to go for garage this season.
